How is the CABASE NAP constituted?
  • The CABASE NAP ADMINISTRATION SUB-COMMITTEE is made up by representatives of each of the members. The Sub-committee’s activities are related to the political and strategic aspects that concern the evolution of the NAP. The decisions within the NAP ADMINISTRATION SUB-COMMITTEE, are made by the those who have been full members for at least one year in that category. This Sub-Committee is chaired by the NAP Vice-President of CABASE.
  • The CABASE NAP TECHNICAL SUB-COMMITTEE (“NAPTEC”), is made up by the technical responsible parties of each member. The Sub-Committee is chartered to resolve the technical and operational aspects of the NAP, enabling the NAP to offer high-performance connectivity service. This Sub-Committee is chaired by a Technical Coordinator.
  • The operation of the NAP is outsourced to a TECHNICAL ADMINISTRATOR, who is responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of all physical systems residing in the NAP, such as: Fire detection and extintion, Access Control, remote controlled temperature of refrigeration system. Also, the Technical Administrator is responsible for the tasks of routing management of each of the NAP’s members. Currently, the technical administration is outsourced to Comsat Argentina S.A.
  • The NAP is autonomous in it´s financial conception, since it is endowed with a cooperative method that enables it’s members to make due payments that may ensure covering the recurring expenses. This has been resolved by means of a calculation method known as “NAP POINTS”, which enables the efficient distribution of the expenses.
Chronology:
  • 1989: CABASE initiates activities
  • 1997: 18 founding members constitute the CABASE NAP
  • 1998: The NAP begins operations
  • 2005: Quality of Service parameters are established
  • 2006: 44 members participate
  • 2006: The NAP installs first Root Server in Argentina
  • 2006: The CABASE NAP launches IPV6 connectivity.
